I’m a Lamborghini, I’m a Hollywood star. This year for Halloween, I dressed up as Alexis Rose from Schitt’s Creek, in her iconic “A Little Bit Alexis” audition scene outfit.
To start, I ordered mauve stretch velvet from a shop on Etsy. I couldn’t find something that was both a mauve color match and crushed velvet (which is what the dress in the show is made of), so I picked color matching over exact texture matching.
I already owned the Duplantier Dress pattern from Elbe Textiles, and thought the style lines were similar enough that I could hack it to match. My changes were to:
- lengthen the sleeve pieces to reach full-length
- cut two wide cuffs for the sleeves, which I attached after using gathering stitches to draw them in
- straighten out the babydoll waistline to be pretty much straight around (the original dress comes to a point in the center bust and slopes down, so I added length to the center pieces)
- straighten out the neckline to create a center opening rather than a deep V, and add skinny ties in between the bodice and facing pieces
In the end, I think I got pretty close to a match! I added over the knee black boots that I found at Goodwill and a long gold pendant I got online. My partner dressed as Alexis’s boyfriend, Ted, and we went to three Halloween parties.
Here’s the side by side result:
